Johannesburg Arts Conservatory

Exists to promote and foster dance excellence and education in South Africa.

Elite

The only pre-professional training school offering classical ballet, contemporary and modern works while also providing both academic education from grades R through Matric.

More importantly, Elite believes that fostering artistic excellence requires more than physical training and takes care to educate, nurture, and inspire our students.

METHODOLOGY

Elite is a High Performance Ballet School with an Academics track for the young and up-coming Professionals. Our master instructors are internationally trained (NYC, London, Paris, Russia) and teach our exclusive Elite Methodology. We also incorporate the Cecchetti and RAD Method and have a unique contemporary dance emphasis based upon the Martha Graham Technique. Our students are given the resources required to one day enter the dance world with the required humility, determination, and training needed for this intensive career. Our dancers will be an asset to any Ballet/Contemporary Company in the world whether they perform, teach, choreograph or otherwise serve an arts organisation.

Our Methodology has been developed by KEN YEATMAN & KAREN BEUKES, who were both professional ballet dancers and teachers. In South Africa, the need for a professional ballet school is vital for the continuation of Ballet in this country. Elite is the only school in Africa that can compare to the Ballet Schools abroad in its training, for example the Royal Ballet School in London and the Bolshoi Ballet School in Russia. These Schools, like Elite, train their dancers from the age of 8 to a professional level, where the student can have a successful career in Dance.

ACADEMICS

DECEMBER

student of the month

Chloe Oosthuizen

What are your goals for this year?

"My goals this year are to end the year knowing I have improved in every way possible as a dancer as well as having learnt the skills of hard work ethic, ambition and confidence to persevere through any challenges laid before me and bring joy to people through dance. Academically I’ve also strived to maintain good grades that will reflect the effort I’ve put in."

What is a favorite hobby outside of dance?

"Outside of dance I enjoy photography where I am able to explore different perspectives and I also thoroughly enjoy baking, reading and being around family and friends."

What inspirational thought would you share with others?

"In a world where you have so little say about what goes on in your life, it is truly a wonderful gift to go into that studio and tell yourself what to do. Never underestimate the power of consistency and determination as it will guide you to an understanding of why you do what you do and how you are willing to do so with the help of the Lord who will crown your efforts with success."

At Elite, we love our students and will highlight the masterpieces that they are each month. Chloe is the December 2019 Student of the Month. Elite is sponsored by Johannesburg Arts Conservatory.
